5 Nov

Where I came from, it’s during New Year’s Eve that fireworks dominate the Philippine skyline. In America, they have it on the 4th of July, but if you live in Britain, you have it on the 5th of November, and thanks to Guy Fawkes. Guy who? That’s when you actually do a Google if you have no idea who he is.

I love fireworks. Maybe its due to the tilting of the head in an elevated position, or the way a dark sky is lit once the fireworks begin. Or the hush when you know everybody else around you is doing the same thing. I have seen a couple of fireworks when I was still in Wales when we would go to Oakwood every summer, saw it on film when Gandalf wanted to liven up Bilbo’s 111th, when do they it everytime for the Olympics, and yes every Bonfire Night.

But I realised one thing was always missing everytime I see a fireworks display. It’s that there’s no warm hand to hold, there’s no face to give that impish smile to, or there’s no words left unspoken when the fireworks is about to begin.

Oh just shut up and watch the sky!

English people! You celebrate Guy Hawkes anarchist bombing assault at Parliament with fireworks.

You, English People, is very odd.

I think it’s more of like a commemoration of sorts that since Guy Fawkes didnt succeed, London is still here today.
