DVD Review: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

31 Dec

Plot: In LA, while escaping from the police after an unsuccessful robbery, the small time thief Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.) is accidentally submitted to an audition for a role of detective in a movie, and invited to a party. He meets the homosexual private eye Gay Perry (Val Kilmer), who suggests him to participate of an investigation to develop his character. He also meets the gorgeous aspirant actress Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan), and finds that she was a friend of his childhood for whom he had a crush. Harry and Perry get involved in an intricate murder case with many leads. With the support of Harmony, they find the sordid truth of the case.

I almost forgot how brilliant an actor Robert Downey Jr. is, and he was just fantastic in this film not to mention an equally good performance from Val Kilmer. Michelle Monaghan (also seen as Tom Cruise’s wife in M:i:III) showcased her talent even more so in this movie.

It is a cracking film isn’t it? Heavily overlooked and something everyone should rent out.

    Glad you enjoyed it Simone!

I would have missed this film totally had you not been giving it high praises.

…and that’s what it’s all about. I love it when I manage to influence someone to go and see a film they wouldn’t have normally, I think I’ve managed that a few times now and it makes all the hassle, time and negativity worth it.

Well get around and watch the Godfather films properly and tell me what you think!

You mentioned Run Lola Run as one of the 3 films you would watch with friends, since I am geographically away from you, I just added it to my queue.

And I’ll always keep an eye on your recommended in FS.

Did I mention DON to you both? šŸ˜› Did I?

There is a Bolly-flick called Salaam-E-Ishq releasing on 26th of Jan that I’d keep an eye open for ..

As for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang … its one of the only films I bought on day of release ‘last’ year. I think it warrants all the praise it gets & lots that it doesn’t .

Ram, I’ve always wanted to ask you for your recommended Bollywood flicks as I have not seen any just yet, give me at least 3 that I can start off with. As for Don, youre talking about the one released in 1978?

Maybe Ram could do a feature article for Filmstalker on Bollywood Films…

  8. Simone January 8, 2007 at 9:34 pm #

Hey Ram, did you read that? Start writing that Bollywood feature!

    Hey Sim
I loved this film too… KKBB is a classic, have you seen Severance though? Came out today on DVD and it is TOP!!
Also just got to say that I have that Quatro pop game on my P990i phone (so addictive I even play it in church)…
Plus I really like your film reviews so keep doing it!
    Cheers
    Matt

Matt! Thanks for dropping by, coming from you I take that as a compliment. I am not big with words like you and Richard where after reading both your film reviews my mouth is wide opened.

Severance seems to be everywhere today huh? Perhaps I should add it to my rental queue based on your recommendation. Please tell me that when you play Quadra Pop in church, there are no services going on? šŸ˜‰

Sweet .. I’ll get writing (I may be while) .. as for Don …

In all honesty its probably not as fab as I make out. lol
That said, the 1978 one is still a total classic that meets the taste of cool 70’s flicks.

& I do feel the 2006 version only gets full justice if you have seen the original. So I’d say see both. In order.
