Film Review: Mission Impossible III

5 May

Plot: Super-spy Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has retired from active duty to train new IMF agents. But he is called back into action to confront the toughest villain he’s ever faced – Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), an international weapons and information provider with no remorse and no conscience. Hunt assembles his team – his old friend Luther Strickell (Ving Rhames), transportation expert Declan (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), background operative Zhen (Maggie Q), and fresh recruit Lindsey (Keri Russell) – to travel the globe pursuing Davian and rescue Hunt’s love, Julia (Michelle Monaghan). – Courtesy of IMDb.

I confess. I am a big fan of Tom Cruise and I have seen ALL of his films. But the last Mission Impossible didnt leave me wanting for more, it’s my problem about having love interest in action films, I just dont buy it, if I wanted to see some schmaltz, I’d watch a romantic comedy or some weepy love story, but not if I want to see some action, and that was what sort of made me a bit unsure whether I would like this film. Then I heard about it being stalled because War of the Worlds needed to be done first, the original casting had to change so many times over, and the introduction of a first time film director to try his hand at the 3rd Mi film! It doenst look very hopeful then. Of course seeing Tom Cruise again will be enough, as I love all his films and who knows how this will turn out. So really, I just wasnt expecting that much anymore, I’ll see it and tick it off my list. But all that has changed after being influenced by Richard Brunton’s review of the film at Filmstalker where he gave it 5 stars! I couldnt wait to see it now and so I did tonight. And where do you even begin to start singing praises for this film? I can say now that this film will be a surefire summer blockbuster. M:i:III is this year’s Revenge of the Sith. And I can also say that this is the best of the Mission Impossible films and it has definitely raised the bar not just for the franchise but for the other action films out there. The film has 4 major action scenes that are well-executed, heart pounding and and no I will not say what it is because you really should go and see it! Cruise is in top form and I do hope there will be a 4th film.

Did I have a problem with the love interest in the story, no, not with this one. Why? Well, go out, and watch the film already, then you’ll know why.

I saw this film last Friday afternoon. I agree with you Simone, I think it is the best of the three. I especially loved the manner in which Ethan manages to get into the Vatican – how cool is that? Now where can I get those gadgets?

I am glad you think so too, I am planning my secong viewing again sometime this week, I just want to see it again!!!

As for the Vatican thing, you know what I was thinking when I was watching that particular scene? If they can do the same for Angels and Demons (have you read it by the way?), ’cause whatever happened to the Swiss guards manning the place, they prolly had their days off!

If you happen to get hold of the car they blew up, can you give me a ride first? LOL

As soon as I can, I will go watch this movie. Tom Cruise is a damn fine great actor, and I don´t care about anything else. I want some solid entertainment, and this seems to be perfect.

This is an awesome film. Most of the credit goes to Mr. Cruise, but the cast is also very well adjusted, free from the excesses of the second part. J.J. Abrams does a very solid work, giving an amazing entertainment. There is no single moment of boredom in this movie.

And, besides the splendid façade of an action film, there is one of the best love stories I have recently seen in the big screen.

    Yeah!!!!

Cruiser is the man! I want an M:i:IV!
